Despite being down to ten men for more than half the game, Spurs managed to grind out a 1-0 win away to Luton Town this afternoon in the Premier League.
Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:
Tottenham player ratings vs Luton Town
Guglielmo Vicario – 7 – Under a lot of pressure in the second half with Spurs down to ten men, but he stood firm and made some really important stops.
Pedro Porro – 7 – Way off it in the first half. Not as composed with the ball at his feet and struggled to break the lines. Gave the ball away a few times in dangerous areas. In the second half, he looked class. So confident on the ball in all areas of the pitch.
Cristian Romero – 8 – Had to defend under a lot of pressure in that second half. Not his most composed game in the world due to the last-ditch nature of the game, but he definitely saved a lot of goals. He loves that kind of on-the-edge, aggressive defending.
Micky Van de Ven – 9 – He was there exactly when Tottenham needed a spark, tapping home to put the away side ahead despite being down to ten. Also defended expertly against the pace of Luton’s wingers and the physicality of Morris too.
Destiny Udogie – 7 – Like Porro, Udogie struggled to find his place in the game in the first half, but looked incredible in the second 45 under a lot more pressure. Some of his breaks down the pitch really defined Tottenham’s attacking threat when down to ten men.
Yves Bissouma – 1 – Can’t give you any more than that when you dive outside the box on a yellow in a game like this. A moment of madness from Bissouma and he really let the team down.
Pape Matar Sarr – 7 – Struggled to get in the game too much today in the first half, but impressed a lot more towards the end of the game with his defensive work rate and pressing. The more pressure he was put under, the better he looked today.
James Maddison – 7.5 – He really is Tottenham’s talisman these days. If Spurs need a moment of magic, it so often comes from him. Skipped past his marker down the byline and pulled it back perfectly for Micky to tap home.
Dejan Kulusevski – 7 – Should have had an assist in the opening minutes when he put one on a plate for Richarlison. Got through a lot of work leading the line towards the end, without exactly getting into dangerous areas. Great effort.
Heung-min Son – 5 – Wasn’t really in the game beyond the first 15 minutes. Had a couple of half chances in and around the box, but was a real victim of Tottenham’s poor build-up play as the game went on.
Richarlison – 3 – Got himself in so many great areas, but didn’t have his shooting boots on. Spurs should have been two or three up inside 12 minutes and Richarlison missed two of those sitters. Hooked at half-time to plug the gap left by Bissouma.
Substitutes:
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 6.5 – Came on and really slowed/calmed things down for Spurs.
Emerson Royal – 6 – Solid on and off the ball as Spurs tried to shut up shop.
Oliver Skipp – 6 – So much desire from him to cover every blade of grass to get the job done.
Ben Davies – N/A
Alejo Veliz – N/A
