Free agent and former Tottenham Hotspur star, Andros Townsend, has joined Luton Town on a short-term contract until January.
Townsend came through the Spurs academy during a prosperous time for the North London club’s youth ranks, with the likes of Harry Kane, Tom Carroll, Ryan Mason, Nabil Bentaleb and more also making the step up.
In fact, there was a time when Townsend was one of the brightest sparks in the country, impressing for both Spurs and England from the right wing. He was even Tottenham’s penalty-taker over Kane.
Andros Townsend signs for Luton Town
Townsend played a total of 87 games for the Lilywhites, scoring nine goals and assisting another 13 (TransferMarkt) before moving to Newcastle United and then Crystal Palace where he spent the bulk of his Premier League career.
After a rather unsuccessful spell with Everton, Townsend became a free agent in 2023 and has now signed for Luton Town following a return from injury. Ironically, Spurs only played Luton a matter of days ago in the league, winning 1-0.
Spurs Web Opinion:
It really felt like a Sliding Doors moment for Townsend when he got injured on the eve of a major tournament for England. Had he gone and continued his fine form on the biggest stage, who knows where his career would be now.
