Emerson Royal has said that it is too early to talk about Tottenham potentially challenging for the title, insisting that the team has to continue taking things one game at a time.

Coming into the campaign, pundits and neutrals had mostly written off Spurs from the race for a top-four spot, which was not surprising considering that the Lilywhites had lost Harry Kane and had hired a coach who was not proven at the highest level.

However, Ange Postecoglou has had a transformative effect on the club and on the back of their impressive displays so far this season, some are beginning to question if Tottenham can put together a title tilt (talkSPORT).

It is fair to say that most pundits still do not think that is realistic, with the likes of Gary Neville (Gary Neville Podcast) and Robbie Savage (TEAMtalk) insisting that Postecoglou’s men are not yet ready to compete with the likes of Man City and Liverpool yet.

Emerson Royal calms Tottenham title talk down

Emerson admitted that the Tottenham players are now going into every game believing that they can win.

When asked if Spurs are a contender for the big prize, the right-back told ESPN Brasil (as translated by Sport Witness): “People at home even joke with me that everything I enter, I enter to win. Everything I want to be the best. And I believe that our team came in with that mentality.

“Obviously it’s too early for us to think about a title or things like that. Certainly, if we continue with the path we have been taking, we will be able to dream about this in the future. But we think one game at a time.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think we should entertain any serious talk of a potential title tilt until the midway point of the campaign. We are at the start of Postecoglou’s project and a top-four finish this season will be an excellent achievement.
