Tottenham Hotspur right-back, Emerson Royal, has been called up to the Brazil squad to face Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday (Official).
The Brazilian was not included in the original squad for the double header of international fixtures this week, but an injury to Danilo has seen the squad take a hit in the right-back department.
Emerson Royal called up to the Brazil squad
Although Emerson has not been a regular in the starting XI in recent weeks due to the impressive form of Pedro Porro, he has still been used off the bench by Ange Postecoglou.
Most recently, the right-back came on in the latter stages against Luton Town to see out a 1-0 win despite Spurs being down to ten men.
It appears that Emerson is still highly respected within the Brazil set-up, as he was hand-picked to fill a void in the squad this week and will now swap Spurs training for a World Cup qualifier.
Spurs Web Opinion:
Postecoglou clearly has a lot of trust in Emerson to come on and do a job from the bench in tough situations. The contrast between Porro and Emerson is helpful in these kinds of situations, as the former is much better going forward but the latter can see out a result.
