Speaking to the press ahead of the weekend’s action, Cristian Stellini has provided an update on Alfie Devine’s standing in the Tottenham Hotspur squad, and revealed the youngster is training with the first-team squad all the time now.

Devine joined Tottenham back in the summer of 2020 after coming through the ranks in the Wigan Athletic youth system.

The midfielder is regarded as one of the brightest prospects at Spurs now and has found himself on the fringes of the first-team squad regularly.

He made his debut for Spurs in the FA Cup against non-league side Marine, making him the youngest-ever player to turn out for the Lilywhites (Transfermarkt). He even scored in the 5-0 win to become Spurs’ youngest-ever goalscorer, too.

Despite this impressive start, Devine has made just two appearances for Tottenham in total (Transfermarkt), though the 18-year-old is thought to have a bright future with the club.

It is unclear when the player will be ready for more first-team action, but Stellini has explained how Devine is involved with the senior players in training consistently at this point.

He told Football.London: “Since we have lost Bissouma and Bentancur, he trains with us 100%. Sometimes he goes to play for the U21s.”

On the progress the youngster is making, Stellini added: “He has the quality and the power in his mind, mentally he’s a good player and he trains every day, and he trains completely at our level.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I cannot wait to see more of Alfie Devine on the pitch for the Spurs first team and I have a feeling we will see him get more chances as the season progresses.

He’s only young, so we have to be patient with him, but he’s a great talent and it sounds like he’s developing well.
