Ange Postecolgou has admitted that he has been impressed by Tottenham academy starlets Alfie Devine and Dane Scarlett during his time at the club.
Both Devine and Scarlett have been key performers for the club’s Under-18s and Under-21s over the last couple of years, with the latter spending last season out on loan at Portsmouth.
Devine featured in the second half of Tottenham’s pre-season friendly against West Ham United last week, putting in an accomplished display despite playing out of position on the right flank.
The Athletic reported a couple of days ago that Spurs plan on loaning out the 18-year-old this summer so that he can get competitive game time under his belt this season.
Postecoglou impressed by Devine and Scarlett
Scarlett has not featured in either of the two friendlies so far due to an injury (Charlie Eccleshare), but the teenage striker has seemingly caught Postecoglou’s eye, with the Australian naming him and Devine as youngsters who have done well so far.
When asked about young players from the academy potentially coming into the first team, the Tottenham head coach told Football.London: “It’s an important part of this football club and the infrastructure and it’s something that we’re constantly monitoring to make sure the club is in the best place possible to find and develop the best talent.
“We’ve got Alfie Devine with us and Dane Scarlett, who are two young guys who have done really well so far and have been with the first team.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Scarlet and Devine need to be playing regular football this season, which is why loaning them out to an EFL club is a no-brainer for Spurs.
It is unlikely that either of them is going to make more than a handful of senior appearances if they stayed at the club.
