Alasdair Gold has revealed that he had a really interesting conversation with Alfie Devine, where the youngster admitted he was learning from watching the likes of Yves Bissouma and James Maddison in action.

Devine has been a key performer for the club’s Under-18s and Under-21s over the last couple of years and is widely seen as one of the best young prospects at the club.

The midfielder featured in Tottenham’s first pre-season friendly of the summer against West Ham United, putting in an accomplished display despite playing out of position on the right flank.

The Athletic reported last week that Spurs plan on loaning out the 19-year-old this summer so that he can get competitive game time under his belt this season.

The teenager admitted in an interview with Sky Sports recently that he is enjoying playing under Ange Postecoglou, adding that the Lilywhites will be one of the most exciting teams to watch next season.

Alfie Devine is learning from his Spurs teammates

Gold has now provided details on the conversation that he had with Devine during pre-season.

The journalist said on his YouTube channel: “I went and spoke to Alfie Devine. He is a very good talker. For an 18-year-old, he really spoke well and it was really interesting.

“We spoke about the way Postecoglou has dealt with him and the things he has asked him to do. Talked about working with Maddison and Bissouma and learning from them. Ryan Mason and Mile Jedinak as midfield coaches for him.

“Whether he had to do an initiation song. He didn’t this time. Previously, he had to do it and they booed him singing a Take That song.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Devine would have likely been loaned out last summer had he not suffered an injury. I have no doubt that Tottenham would look to loan the 19-year-old out to a League One club this summer as he needs regular, competitive game time under his belt.
