Former Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic had no hesitation in picking Ryan Sessegnon when asked which one of his former players he would love to work with again.
Sessegnon was quite highly rated when he arrived at Tottenham in a £25m deal from the Cottagers back in 2019.
However, a combination of managerial changes at Spurs and his injury issues have meant that the wide-man has struggled to live up to his potential in North London.
The 23-year-old might have been hoping to catch Ange Postecoglou’s eye in the summer but his hopes of doing so were ended when he picked up another hamstring injury at the start of pre-season.
The former England Under-21 international is expected to be introduced into training over the next few weeks ahead of a potential comeback in November (The Standard).
Ryan Sessegnon still has admirers in the game
It remains to be seen whether Sessegnon will have a future at Spurs under Postecoglou but Jokanovic would certainly love the opportunity to work with the youngster again.
When asked which one of his former Fulham players he would pick if he could only have one, the Serbian told The Fulham Fix Podcast: “Well there’s a lot of players who made a lot of important things for the team and my team.
“Just one is impossible, but if it was just one it would be Ryan Sessegnon, because he was younger than the other people. Tom Cairney did a fantastic job, Aluko was fantastic for the team, Kev, Johansen.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not see Sessegnon as a good fit for the inverted full-back role under Postecoglou. While the 23-year-old undoubtedly has the energy to play with the kind of intensity the Australian wants, he lacks the technical quality to receive the ball centrally on the half-turn.
However, it is worth remembering that most fans also had doubts about Porro’s suitability for the role but he has adapted brilliantly. So, one cannot rule out Sessegnon from doing the same.
