According to a report in the Mirror (6 March, page 62), Tottenham have made Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg their main target when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Sky Sports reported in January that Spurs were keen on the Saints midfielder, who has been on the south coast since joining from Bayern Munich in 2016 for a reported transfer fee of £12.8million (BBC).

The Danish international has been one of the Saints’ most consistent performers in recent seasons and has established a reputation as one of the most reliable midfield anchors in the Premier League.

A move for the 24-year-old didn’t materialise in January, although Spurs did conduct business with Southampton, with Kyle Walker-Peters joining Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side on loan until the end of the season.

The Mirror now reveal that Spurs are ready to intensify their efforts to sign the hard-tackling midfielder.

It is asserted that the Lilywhites will have to beat competition from Leicester City for Hojbjerg’s services, with Brendan Rodgers also said to be keen on bringing the midfielder to the King Power Stadium.

Spurs Web Opinion

I have always rated Hojbjerg very highly and I believe he can be a fantastic addition to our squad. If Dier is indeed converted back into a centre half, we need to add another midfield enforcer to the squad, particularly with Wanyama also being let go. The only issue with signing Hojbjerg might be that it could adversely affect Oliver Skipp’s development.
