Tottenham Hotspur still hold an interest in Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg but are yet to make a decision on whether to bid for him, The Telegraph claim.
The Southampton star, who has been a consistent performer in the heart of the Saints midfield is down to the final year of his contract at St Mary’s.
Spurs reportedly tried to sign the midfielder during the January transfer window (Sky Sports) and reports suggest that they are ready to return for his services this summer (The Mirror: 6 March, page 62).
The Danish international recently admitted that he was flattered to be linked with the Lilywhites (Viaplay via BT).
Some Spurs fans on social media have urged the club to snap him up as they feel the hard-tackling midfielder would be a solid addition to the squad.
The Telegraph claim that Hojbjerg is a long-term target for Tottenham and that the club were ready to make an offer for him before the coronavirus pandemic.
Although they are still said to be keen on signing the 24-year-old, it is revealed that they will now wait to assess the financial impact of the pandemic before making an offer for the Southampton star.
Spurs Web Opinion
Given that Hojbjerg has just a year left on his deal with the Saints, he is probably the best option we can go for his summer in terms of being of the desired quality and the right price range. I would be surprised if we don’t make an offer for him as Southampton will likely be keen to cash in on him this summer rather than risk losing him on a free transfer.
