The Evening Standard have revealed that Eric Dier, who decided to have surgery to fix his groin issue this week, has been playing through pain since the World Cup.

Tottenham confirmed on Wednesday that Eric Dier had gone under the knife to fix his groin issue and would thus be unavailable for the club’s final Premier League game of the season against Leeds.

The Evening Standard have now shed light on the defender’s injury, revealing that it has been a ‘long-standing problem’ for the centre-back.

The report reveals that the England international has been nursing the injury since last year’s World Cup and has been playing through the pain to help the club’s push for European football.

However, he allegedly felt that he was not able to complete the campaign and had no choice but to have surgery.

Dier will enter the final year of his contract at Tottenham this summer and the outlet states that the club are not currently in talks with him over a new deal.

The same information was reported by The Athletic a couple of days ago, with the publication asserting that there is now a ‘real possibility’ that he could leave on a free transfer in 2024.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Dier has had a poor second half of the season but I find the venom with which he is attacked on social media by so-called Spurs fans to be nauseating.

Whatever one thinks of his ability, he always gives 100 per cent and wears his heart on his sleeve.

The fact that he was playing through pain for the club’s sake while being hounded on social media for his performances, shows the kind of guy he is.
