According to Fichajes, Chelsea are plotting a big January offer for Lille striker Jonathan David, who was linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer.
After Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich, a whole host of number nines were linked with a move to Spurs during the summer transfer window, with David being one of the prominent names among those (CaughtOffside).
In fact, at one point, Italian journalist Rudy Galetti even suggested that the prolific Lille star, who was allegedly valued at €50m-€60m (£43m-£51.5m), was at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist to replace Kane.
However, in the end, Spurs chose against signing an out-and-out number nine, securing the services of the versatile Brennan Johnson instead.
Chelsea are now keen on Jonathan David
If Tottenham were to reignite their interest in David in January, they are now expected to face competition from their London rivals, Chelsea, with Fichajes reporting that the Blues are eyeing a move for the 23-year-old.
It is explained that the West London club are keen to bolster their forward line and that the Canadian international has impressed the Stamford Bridge hierarchy.
The report adds that Chelsea are plotting an offer of €60m (£51.5m) for David, which they expect to be enough to prise him away from the Stade Pierre Mauroy.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham’s decision on whether to pursue a centre-forward in January will depend on how well Son adapts to the number nine role and whether Richarlison can turn his form around. There is no doubt that addressing other areas such as centre-back would be a bigger priority for the Lilywhites.
