GiveMeSport have claimed that Chelsea could enter the race to sign rumoured Tottenham target Ivan Toney in January.
Toney is currently serving an eight-month FA ban for breaching betting regulations, which will lapse in January.
Several outlets over the last few weeks have backed the Lilywhites to explore a move for the 27-year-old in January, including Football.London, who recently explained that the striker’s decision to sign with CAA Stellar Sports might work to the North London club’s advantage.
This was because Spurs are alleged to have a good relationship with the agency, which also represents Ben Davies and Fraser Forster.
However, Tottenham are by no means the only club eyeing Toney, with the likes of Arsenal (The Times) and Manchester United (Football Transfers) also said to be monitoring the player.
Chelsea now enter the race for Ivan Toney
GiveMeSport have now claimed that Toney has also emerged as a target for the Blues, with Mauricio Pochettino said to be keen on adding another striker to his squad to supplement Nicolas Jackson.
The report alleges that the West London club will enter the market for a new number nine in January and that the Brentford star is part of their three-man shortlist, alongside Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
Spurs Web Opinion
I would be extremely surprised if Tottenham get involved in a bidding war for Toney. Postecoglou is evidently happy to work with up-and-coming young talents rather than readymade stars, which is why I expect Spurs to continue target players in their early twenties, who are in the £40m-£50m price range rather than ones who cost over £70m.
