Fabrizio Romano has said that Tottenham Hotspur are not prioritising a move for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher at the moment, adding that other clubs have more concrete interest in the attacking midfielder.
Tottenham’s interest in Gallagher came to light last week when Football.London reported that the Lilywhites could use the 23-year-old’s desire to remain in London to their advantage and get a deal over the line.
This was followed up by an update on The Athletic’s live transfer blog (16/06, 3 pm), which suggested that Tottenham were battling Brighton and West Ham for the England international’s signature.
Tottenham are not pushing hard for Conor Gallagher
However, Romano has now said on his YouTube channel (starting at 2.17) that while it is true that Chelsea are open to cashing in on Gallagher, Tottenham are not one of the top contenders to sign him.
The journalist explains that the attacking midfielder does have admirers at Spurs but asserts that the North London club are now fully focused on winning the race for James Maddison.
Romano adds that Brighton also have other priorities apart from Gallagher, stating that West Ham and Newcastle are the two clubs with a ‘concrete’ interest in the Chelsea star.
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no doubt that we would need more than just one attacking midfielder this summer, particularly if Postecoglou decides that Ndombele and Lo Celso do not have futures at the club.
However, if we are to pursue an up-and-coming attacking midfielder alongside Maddison, I would prefer to see us go after Alex Scott rather than Gallager.
