Despite already having a bid rejected, West Ham still believe they will beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signature of Chelsea star Conor Gallagher this summer.
Last week, the Evening Standard revealed Gallagher was being ‘offered to clubs’ this summer as he is now thought to be ‘surplus to requirements’ at Chelsea.
That same report listed Tottenham and West Ham as the leading suitors in the race for the 23-year-old.

It was originally suggested that £35m might be enough to secure the signing of Gallagher (Nizaar Kinsella), but that valuation now appears to be incorrect.
Jacob Steinberg recently tweeted about West Ham‘s failed bid for Gallagher, claiming the London side had seen an offer of £37m plus add-ons knocked back.
The journalist suggested West Ham were ‘not willing to go higher’ than their initial bid, seemingly handing the advantage to Spurs.
West Ham still hope to sign Conor Gallagher
However, the latest from the Evening Standard suggests West Ham have not given up on Gallagher just yet.
Apparently, the Hammers “remain confident” they can acquire Gallagher this summer. Despite Chelsea reportedly wanting “closer to £50m” for the player, there is “optimism” among those at West Ham that an agreement can be reached.
The report reiterates the notion that Gallagher is “expected to leave” Chelsea during the current transfer window.
West Ham are believed to be keen to make two signings in midfield, but are finding negotiations a “challenge” as rival clubs are “well aware” of the huge sum the Hammers just received for Declan Rice.

If West Ham are going to keep pushing for Gallagher, it’s far more likely he will end up there. I can’t see Spurs being bullied into paying more than £40m for him, and Chelsea would probably be far more comfortable letting their player join West Ham anyway.
