The Sun’s Tom Barclay has claimed that Conor Gallagher might turn down Tottenham Hotspur in favour of a club where he is guaranteed regular first-team starts.

It has been widely reported over the last few weeks that Gallagher is one of the options on Spurs‘ radar to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is expected to complete a move to Atletico Madrid (Daily Mail).

It was even reported by The Telegraph recently that the Lilywhites had moved into pole position for the England international’s signature ahead of London rivals, West Ham United.

Gallagher did start both Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool and 3-1 defeat to West Ham but the youngster might fall down Maurcio Pochettino’s pecking order following the arrival of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Stamford Bridge.

Gallagher may not fancy his chances at Tottenham

Barclay believes that while the Blues could be open to cashing in on the England international, the player might not be overly keen on a switch to Spurs since he will not be guaranteed a start once Rodrigo Bentnacur returns to full fitness.

When asked about Tottenham’s pursuit of Gallagher, the journalist told Last Word on Spurs: “It’s interesting, there have been a few reports that they would let him go, but from what I’m hearing if he is to leave I don’t think Spurs would be the place from the player’s point of view.

“If he is to leave Chelsea he’d want to go somewhere he’ll play every week. I think he would be great for Spurs, but when Bentancur comes back he could be huge in that position. One to watch maybe on that front.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Gallagher might well fancy his chances of establishing himself as a regular starter at Spurs. I do not think the 23-year-old would be put off by that challenge.

However, I suspect that Pochettino would want to hang on to the England international for the time being before making a decision on his future in January.
