Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has condemned the behaviour of the Arsenal fan who threw a plastic bottle at Dele Alli during the second half of the North London Derby.
Speaking in the post-match press conference, the Argentine called the fan’s behaviour ‘stupid’ and said that he hoped Arsenal would identify the fan and take appropriate action.
He said, “It was lucky that it wasn’t a big issue. For me, OK we play a derby and we hate each other in a good way, but that is in a bad way when you go to damage some people or an opponent. I cannot talk in general because only one stupid person made a mistake. I respect the Arsenal fans like I respect the professionals from Arsenal and I respect our fans.”
“I hope that Arsenal take responsibility and through the camera, they can identify [the person] because it wasn’t a problem, but it can happen to be a big problem—some big issue, and how are we going to fix it?”
Dele Alli didn’t make too much out of the incident and chose to react to it in a cheeky manner by letting the Arsenal fans know what the score was. When asked about the incident after the game, the 22-year-old midfielder said being hit by the projectile made the goal and the win a bit sweeter.
