Tottenham Midfielder Harry Winks fired a warning to Arsenal players ahead of the North London Derby on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old England midfielder has claimed that Spurs players will be out for revenge when they step out at the Emirates for the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.
Arsenal overcame Spurs 4-2 earlier in the month, a fixture in which Winks came on as a second-half substitute. The midfielder who was born in Hemel Hempstead and came through the ranks at Tottenham, certainly knows what a North London derby means for the fans, and would have been bitterly disappointed by Tottenham’s result at the Emirates earlier in the month.
Speaking to Standard Sport, Winks said referring to the game, “That defeat was difficult to take. It’s never nice losing to anyone, especially our rivals at their ground. It was disappointing for us, the fans, the club, but we’ve put it right with our results since in the League and the Champions League. It’s important we do the same on Wednesday.”
The Tottenham man far from mincing words insisted that the Spurs players will be out to avenge the defeat when they take to the field on Wednesday.
He added, “It’s a massive game for us. It’s come quickly after we lost to them two weeks ago, so there’s going to be revenge on our minds. We want to put it right and, obviously, it’s a good opportunity to progress in a cup.”
The dynamic midfielder was rested by Mauricio Pochettino for the league game against Burnley last Saturday and is thus likely to start against Arsenal this time around. The Spurs players will need to show a lot more fight than they did in the earlier fixture if they want to progress to the semifinals, and based on Winks’s words, he certainly looks up for the fight.
