Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Cristian Romero seems to be evolving by the minute, with reports from Italy today indicating that Atalanta have rejected a sizeable offer from the North London club.
Romero impressed on loan at Atalanta from Juventus last season and followed that up with a starring performance for Argentina in their historic Copa America success.
Atalanta are expected to take up the £13.8m option to sign the player permanently and sell him on a profit.
If the latest reports coming out of Italy are to be believed, Tottenham are not finding it easy to prise the 23-year-old away from Atalanta.
Sport Italia journalist Gianluigi Longari reported earlier today that Tottenham are in talks with Atalanta regarding Romero and that the Serie A club would like to sign Davinson Sanchez as a part of the deal.
This information was also backed up by Corriere della Sera, who suggested that Paratici has offered €30m (£25.6m) plus Sanchez for the Argentine international.
Fabrizio Romano also reported this evening that while Tottenham had not yet agreed a deal with Atalanta, they had reached an agreement with Romero over personal terms.
However, according to Longari’s latest information, the Bergamo club have turned down an offer of €45m (£38.4m) including bonuses from the North London club for the centre-back.

Spurs Web Opinion
If Atalanta do have an interest in Sanchez, hopeful that should help Paratici get a deal for Romero over the line. It is likely that Spurs were just testing the waters with their first offer. We could see a lot more developments on this front over the next couple of days.
