'He doesn't care' - Journalist says Spurs star is like Erik Lamela in training

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Cristian Romero does not shy away from launching himself into tackles during training sessions.

While Romero always had the raw materials to be a world-class centre-back, there were questions about his composure during the first couple of seasons at Tottenham.

Now that the Argentine has been given additional leadership responsibility, with Ange Postecoglou appointing him as vice-captain, there are signs that he is managing to channel his aggression in a better manner without crossing the line.

Many of Romero’s international teammates are certainly in no doubt about the 25-year-old’s quality, with Lionel Messi and some of the other Albiceleste stars insisting recently that the Tottenham man is the best central defender in the world (Mirror).

When Messi’s comments were put to Postecoglou a few days ago, he admitted to talkSPORT that he certainly would not want to train or play against the former Juventus man as he does not hold back.

Cristian Romero is like Erik Lamela in training

Gold has backed up the Australian’s words, revealing that the centre-back has taken over from Erik Lamela in being a thorn in the flesh of his teammates during training.

The journalist said on his YouTube channel: “They used to hate training against Lamela. They all had to wear shinpads and everything. Romero, I get the impression, isn’t any different.

“I have seen Romero training. I have seen him launching in. He doesn’t care. He is just a bit mad when it comes to football, although, he hasn’t conceded a single foul.”

This certainly would not come as a surprise to Spurs fans as what you see is what you get with Romero. The decision to hand him the vice-captaincy looks like a masterstroke by Postecoglou as it forces the centre-back to take more responsibility rather than getting carried away by emotion.
