Journalist Paul Brown has said that Cristian Romero’s relationship with Tottenham Hotspur has now been mended and that there is no reason to think that an exit is on the cards for the Argentine anytime soon.
Romero came under plenty of criticism for his performances in the second half of last season, with the centre-back struggling to live up to the high standards he had set for himself in his first season at Tottenham.
The 25-year-old admitted in the summer that his performances were not up to scratch after returning from the World Cup and he vowed to showcase the best version of himself this season (The Athletic).
The former Atalanta man has certainly lived up to that promise so far, having formed a solid partnership at the back with new signing Micky Van de Ven.
The extra leadership responsibility that Ange Postecoglou has handed Romero (the Australian made him his captain) seems to be bringing the best out of the defender, who even insisted to The Evening Standard last month that the 58-year-old coach is ‘perfect’ for Spurs.

The bridges between Romero and Spurs are mended
Speaking about the centre-back’s future, Brown has now told GiveMeSport: “We don’t know what Romero would have done if Conte had stayed around. It’s good that he seems to be thriving under a new manager. He seems to have rediscovered his form.
“He’s formed a good partnership at the back and looks like the player Spurs hoped they were getting. So, those are all positive things for the club. He looks happy enough playing there again.
“And I wouldn’t think there’s any reason to believe there’s any doubt about his future at Spurs. I think it’s a relationship that has been mended and looks good going forward. I think those are all positives.”

While Conte is undoubtedly a great tactician and his leadership methods have given him plenty of success, it was evident that Romero was one of a number of players who did not see eye to eye with the Italian. Just from his body language, one can tell that the Argentine is a lot happier under Agne.
