Tottenham Hotspur would be able to hire Ange Postecoglou without paying any compensation to his current employers Celtic, but the Scottish club are planning to offer him a new deal to combat interest from the North London side.

The search for a new permanent manager at Tottenham has taken more than two months already. Since Antonio Conte left the club at the end of March, Cristian Stellini oversaw four games before being replaced by Ryan Mason, who was Acting Head Coach until the end of the season.

Many managers have been rumoured to be in the running for the Spurs job, but most of those linked with the role have distanced themselves and committed their future to their current club.

Spurs are now at risk of enduring another farcical summer reminiscent of the one in 2021 which resulted in Nuno Espirito Santo’s ill-fated appointment.

However, one name who now appears to be a frontrunner with a real chance of coming through is Celtic‘s Postecoglou.

According to a report from ESPN, the Australian could move to Spurs with very little complication due to his contractual situation with the Bhoys.

Apparently, Tottenham now “plan to talk” to Postecoglou about the opening at the club after the upcoming Scottish Cup final, and it is thought the 57-year-old is a “strong contender”.

The fact that Postecoglou is on a “12-month rolling contract” means he would be free to join Spurs this summer without any compensation being paid to Celtic.

It seems the Scottish giants will try their best to keep their manager by “offering him a longer deal with better terms” than his current contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

Let’s hope this is not just another case of a manager riding the wave of speculation to get a new contract at his current club.

Postecoglou isn’t my first choice by any means, but I’m starting to really lose patience with this manager search and wonder whether we should just get this wrapped up ASAP and begin our summer project.
