Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham are being careful about not putting all their eggs into one basket after their pursuit of Arne Slot fell through last week.

It seemed until mid-way through last week that it would only be a matter of time before Arne Slot would be confirmed as Tottenham‘s next head coach but, out of the blue, the Dutchman announced last Thursday that he would be remaining at Feyenoord.

Some publications have suggested that the 44-year-old may not have ever had any intention of coming to Spurs and could have simply been using the North London club’s interest to negotiate a better contract for him at De Kuip (The Athletic).

Over recent days, some outlets, including The Independent, have suggested that Ange Postecoglou has now emerged as one of the leading contenders to take over in N17, with Tottenham expected to step up their pursuit of the Australian following Celtic‘s Scottish Cup final on Saturday.

Romano has now confirmed that while Postecoglou is indeed on Spurs’ radar, the Lilywhites are now also being careful to consider other options.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Postecoglou is a concrete option, for sure. He’s on the list, but he is not the only one.

“After what happened with Arne Slot, Tottenham want to be careful and also have different options.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham seem to be struggling to manage the number of leaks to the media about their managerial search.

The club had to come out and deny reports that Nagelsmann was their top target while it also appears like the Slot deal was never as advanced as some media outlets had suggested.

So, Spurs fans should not believe suggestions that Postecoglou is now the clear front-runner until there is clear evidence that that is actually the case.
