Football Insider have revealed that Celtic are now ready to make Ange Postecoglou the best-paid manager in their history in an effort to ward off interest from the likes of Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou has now emerged as one of the leading contenders to replace Antonio Conte at Tottenham, with The Independent even claiming last week that he has now emerged as the North London club’s first choice after their pursuit of Arne Slot collapsed.

The outlet suggested that the ‘expansive and entertaining football’ the Australian has delivered at Parkhead is one of the reasons why he is admired by Spurs.

Football Insider have also backed up Tottenham’s interest in Postecoglou and add that he is also on the radar of Wolves.

The report adds that Celtic are well aware of the strong interest in their head coach from south of the border and are ready to step up efforts to tie him down.

It is explained that Postecoglou is currently on a 12-month contract at the Scottish giants that heavily incentivises the team’s success but the club are now willing to offer him a deal that would trump even the one given to Brendan Rodgers during his time at Glasgow.

However, Football Insider add that despite Celtic’s willingness to offer the 57-year-old a new deal, they are also preparing contingency plans in the event of his possible departure, having identified Man City assistant coach Enzo Maresca as a potential target.

Spurs Web Opinion

Postecoglou ticks some boxes for Spurs as he is a good man-manager, plays entertaining football and is someone who says all the right things in the media to get the fans onside.

However, his appointment would be a huge risk as we simply do not know if he is good enough to compete at the Premier League level against the best managers in the world.

Unlike Arne Slot, who overachieved with Feyenoord, beating teams like Ajax and PSV Eindhoven to the title, Postecoglou has managed the team with the most resources in Scottish football, which is a competition that is arguably of the same standard as League One.
