Ledley King has admitted that he would love to play in the current Tottenham side under Ange Postecoglou, given the kind of freedom the players have been handed to express themselves.
King was not only flawless defensively but he was very much ahead of his time as a centre-back, being two-footed and having the ability to play out from the back.
The Spurs legend started out as a midfielder in the academy before dropping to become a centre-back and earning 322 appearances as a one-club man (TransferMarkt).
Peter Crouch even revealed in a recent episode of That Peter Crouch Podcast that King used to dribble past forwards regularly and pick out fantastic passes when the duo were coming through the ranks at Tottenham.
So, it comes as no surprise that the 43-year-old is quite envious of the freedom that the likes of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have been given, stating that all players want to play forward rather than taking the safety-first approach.
Ledley King would love to play for Ange Postecoglou
When asked if he would like to play for Postecoglou, King told TNT Sports: “I would love to. I would love to play in this team. Whether you’re a defender or an attacker, you want to play going forward. And you want players to express themselves.
“We have so many talented players in this football club. And when they play with great expression, that’s when they play at their best.”

One of King’s biggest assets as a player was his calmness and composure, both while defending and in possession. He was also an exceptional one-vs-one defender at his peak, which is why he would have been a natural fit for Postecoglou’s system.
