Craig Burley thinks it is obvious that Ange Postecoglou is not convinced by Richarlison, and believes the Spurs boss will eventually faze the forward out of the side.

Postecoglou has backed Richarlison from the start of the season, with the Australian being rather complimentary of the Brazilian’s work rate and insisting back in the summer that he has all the attributes to thrive in his system (Goal).

However, the 26-year-old has continued to struggle to hit the back of the net, with Postecoglou moving him to the left and playing Son Heung-min through the middle during the last few matches.

Richarlison missed a couple of gilt-edged chances during Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Luton Town two weeks ago and his performance for the Selecao during the international break also left a lot to be desired.

It was suggested by journalist Dean Jones a couple of days ago that Spurs may even decide to offload the former Everton man in January and bring another number nine through the door (GiveMeSport), and Burley has admitted that he would not be surprised if that happens.

How patient will Postecoglou be with Richarlison?

The pundit told ESPN FC: “I think we will see this squad slowly evolving during the international break. There were one or two stories that they were looking to get rid of, particularly of Richarlison.

“I don’t think Postecoglou is convinced at all with him. They have signed Brennan Johnson, and Heung-Min Son can play there. They will try to move players out as well as try to get players in.

“It’s patently obvious that Richarlison is a bit of a bull in a china shop in the Premier League.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not believe that Postecoglou would be thinking of replacing Richarlison for the time being. The Brazilian would be given opportunities to come good and I suspect that Tottenham will only take a call next summer on the 26-year-old’s future and their centre-forward situation.
