Despite an incredible start to his tenure as Tottenham Hotspur manager, Ange Postecoglou has reminded everyone that his team are still laying the foundations for success and have a long way to go.
Any of the scepticism surrounding Ange Postecoglou‘s appointment as the new Spurs manager this summer has quickly dissipated after the Australian led the Lilywhites to an unbeaten start in the first eight games of the Premier League campaign.
Going into the international break, the North London club were top of the table, and have a chance to return to the summit depending on the result they achieve against Fulham tonight.
In such a short space of time, Postecoglou appears to have got the best out of his current squad, with the players adopting his mantra of exciting, attacking football almost instantaneously.
More experienced players such as Heung-min Son are thriving, while younger stars like Destiny Udogie and Pape Matar Sarr have come into the side and flourished under their new leader.
Spurs have a long way to go under Postecoglou
Speaking to Sky Sports’ Football Daily, Postecoglou has taken a pragmatic approach to his job at Spurs, and insists the team still have much more to offer despite such a positive start.
He said: “When I say that we are still in the early building stages of this, it’s not because I’m trying to downplay expectations, it’s because that’s the truth. We are eight games into a new cycle, three or four months into a new training regime, a new way of playing and thinking.
“A lot of our players are just beginning their Premier League careers. That’s my responsibility now. We can’t get side-tracked. I’ve been in this position where I’ve gone into a club and haven’t had a smooth start, and I’ve had to be really strong and insist this is the road we’re going down.

“It’s just as important if things are going well. We do not veer away from it. We are at the beginning of what we’re trying to build, and my responsibility – and I don’t shy away from it – is to make sure that we keep improving and get better than what we are.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Wise words as always from our fearless leader, and it’s almost scary to think that this team should end up even better than what they have shown us so far. With a few more players hopefully coming in, and the existing players having even more time to get accustomed to what Ange wants from them, the sky really is the limit.
