TalkSPORT pundit Paul Hawksbee has said that Son Heung-min struggled to impact the game against Sheffield United, given how deep the Blades were defending.
Son went into the clash on Saturday high on confidence, having netted a hat-trick against Burnley just before the international break.
However, the South Korean hardly got any chances against Paul Heckingbottom’s men, who did not give the Tottenham captain any space or time in the final third.
Ange Postecoglou took Son off in the 80th minute and put Richarlison up front, with the change having the desired outcome as the Brazilian headed in the equaliser in injury time before setting up Dejan Kulusevski’s match-winner.
Son admitted after the game that he was delighted to see the Brazilian get on the scoresheet after the struggles he has been through over recent weeks, remarking that the cameo would serve as a great boost to the 26-year-old’s confidence (Football.London).
Does Heung-min Son struggle against a low block?
Hawksbee has now opined that Son struggles when playing against a low-back side that denies him any space to run into.
The pundit told talkSPORT: “You felt that Richarlison should come on. It really wasn’t a game for Sonny, with a low block like that.
“He loved it against Burnley because they’ve got a high line and can run into space. He had no space to run into. He was waiting for a killer ball all the time that didn’t quite come and Sheffield United, they did defend pretty stoutly.”
Spurs Web Opinion
This is exactly why I think Ange will start Son upfront against Arsenal as the Gunners will push up and leave space for the South Korean to exploit. The 30-year-old would be licking his lips at the prospect of playing against Mikel Arteta’s men.
