Son Heung-min has revealed that the atmosphere around Hotspur Way is now completely different to how it was last season.
Last week, The Athletic explained in a detailed article the various changes that Ange Postecoglou has implemented at Tottenham in his first 100 days in charge at the club.
The report revealed that the training sessions are shorter and involve intensive ball work rather than repetitive drills while team meetings last no more than 15 to 20 minutes as opposed to some hour-long ones that were commonplace last season.
The outlet also stated that Postecoglou had made a point to get to know all the staff at the club and has given them a clearly defined schedule, which is a big change from last season when Antonio Conte would make frequent last-minute changes.
Heung-min Son is loving life at Tottenham now
Son has now backed up the article’s claim regarding the change in atmosphere at the club, revealing that it is quite noticeable even to outsiders.
The South Korean said in a fan forum held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday: “The changing room, the club, the stadium, the vibes are really, really positive. For example, today I had a doping [test] after training and even the guys came in and said ‘Wow, they’ve changed the vibe’.
“Because last year they turned up and probably saw us down so I think today they came and said ‘The vibe is much better than last year and looks really positive’.
“This is what we’re looking for. Obviously, when you’re positive you play with confidence and obviously you perform well.
“The players are definitely working hard because the training sessions are really hard. They’re playing to win, they want to give something back to our fans because they know what this means. Definitely, the vibe is really, really good and positive which is very good at the moment.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I am convinced that the biggest difference between last year and this year is the absence of a fear of failure. Since Conte was a perfectionist, whose system was reliant on making fewer mistakes than the opposition, the players were under pressure to make as few errors as possible.
Ange has gone the opposite direction and given them full freedom to make mistakes as long as they are trying to do the right thing. So, it is not surprising that the players are enjoying their football again.
