Brennan Johnson is finally a Tottenham player, and a new report on the journey to securing the deal has revealed both Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy gave a presentation to the player and his representatives to explain how they will develop him.

In recent weeks, namely since the departure of Harry Kane, Tottenham have stepped up their pursuit of Brennan Johnson as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his attack.

A report from The Independent earlier this month suggested Spurs would have to pay £40m to acquire Johnson, but would face competition from both Brentford and Chelsea.

Despite Johnson being one of Nottingham Forest’s top talents, it is thought the sale of the young Welshman was essential to Forest in balancing the books for the sake of Financial Fair Play regulations (Football Insider).

On deadline day, Spurs finally landed their man, agreeing on a deal to sign Johnson for £47.5m, with no add-ons. There will be a 10% sell-on fee, however (David Ornstein).

Levy and Postecoglou won Brennan Johnson over

According to a report from The Telegraph detailing the journey to this agreement, it is revealed that both Postecoglou and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy secured Johnson’s signature thanks to a presentation showing how he would be utilised by the Lilywhites.

Apparently, there was a meeting at Hotspur Way, attended by Johnson and his representatives, with both Postecoglou and Levy expressing how keen they were to sign the player and “outlining how he would fit in” to the new-look Spurs squad.

It is said both Postecoglou and Levy were in “total agreement” over the idea of signing Johnson. The report adds that Postecoglou sees Johnson as a “key addition” who has a “bright” future at the club.

Spurs Web Opinion

Brennan Johnson is a great signing for Spurs and should flourish under Ange Postecoglou and this new style of football we are playing. It sounds like the club went all out to ensure the transfer went ahead, and it must be an exciting move for Johnson to step up to this level.
