According to Arsenal legend Ray Parlour, Harry Kane will return to the Premier League one day. And, he reckons the striker will still be able to play at the top level for quite some time.
Tottenham Hotspur hearts were broken this summer when Harry Kane ended his 13-year spell with the club to move on to Bayern Munich in the search of silverware.
The talismanic striker leaves behind an incredible legacy in North London, having become Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer earlier this year (ESPN).
While many expected Kane’s departure to be a killer blow for Spurs, Ange Postecoglou has got his new-look team playing excellent football and the Lilywhites are currently unbeaten after the first six games of the Premier League campaign.
Kane has made a predictably fantastic start to life in Germany, too. The 30-year-old already has eight goals and four assists in his first seven appearances for Bayern (Transfermarkt).
Harry Kane will return to England, says Parlour
It is widely expected that Kane will achieve his dream of winning trophies with Bayern, but there is still the matter of the Premier League goalscoring record to settle for the England captain. He is just 47 goals behind Alan Shearer’s long-standing record.
Speaking to TEAMtalk, former Arsenal midfielder, Ray Parlour suggested Kane will be back one day, and should still be as dangerous as ever.
He said: “He’s certainly got time because he looks after himself these days, he can play until a little bit longer, and he’s a clever player, isn’t he? He can play that number 10 role. I always look at Teddy Sheringham, who was that sort of player as well. He’d play until late 30s, 40s even.
“I know there’s a lower division, but you know he could play at a good standard in the Premier League. So, I think Harry will [return].
“If it all goes well for Bayern Munich and they can win a few trophies, Harry will be delighted. And the Champions League is obviously the one from Bayern Munich’s point of view. Again, I’m sure he would come back at a certain time.”
On taking that record off Shearer, Parlour added: “It’s all about your body, really, and whether you can handle games. I think German football will be a little bit easier than the Premier League, so maybe that gives him a little bit more time to come back.
“But I’m sure he will look at that record and say ‘It’s still there to be beaten, and if I can get a few good years in Germany, win a few trophies, who knows, I could come back and still win that the record off Shearer.’
“It would be an amazing achievement to have the Premier League record and England record. After a few trophies in Germany, that would probably be the icing on the cake for his career.”
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no doubt Kane will win some trophies with Bayern and then once he has scratched that itch, he will surely come back to the Premier League and get the record. Whether that is with Spurs or not, is a different matter.
