Despite reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur, it is expected Levi Colwill will return to Chelsea after his loan spell with Brighton this season and become a part of the Blues’ first-team squad.
Colwill has been earmarked as a future star, and has done his best to prove his potential this year during a season-long loan spell at high-flying Brighton and Hove Albion.
The 20-year-old has impressed in 15 appearances for the Seagulls so far this campaign, both in the Premier League and in the FA and EFL Cups.
He has also turned out twice for the Brighton development squad and registered an assist there (Transfermarkt).
Tottenham Hotspur have recently emerged as an interested party when it comes to Colwill’s future, with a report from The Sun suggesting Spurs were ready to make a shock move to lure the player away from their London rivals in the summer.
That particular report claimed Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly may be forced to offload some of the club’s homegrown talent at the end of the season.
However, it sounds like Colwill won’t be leaving Chelsea just yet.
The latest from The Times suggests Colwill, who has yet to make an appearance for the Chelsea first team, has done enough to secure his place in the West London club’s plans for next season.
Apparently, Chelsea expect Colwill to return this summer and remain with the first-team squad for the 2023/24 campaign.
With Chelsea set to appoint a new permanent manager, it remains to be seen which players will be retained and which will exit the club, but the current stance appears to be that Colwill would not be for sale.
Spurs Web Opinion
I never really expected Spurs to sign Colwill and it figures that Chelsea would be keen to keep hold of him.
If rumours are true and Pochettino is going to take over there, Colwill could even have a shot at breaking into the first team as we know Poch likes to develop young players.
