According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Tottenham Hotspur have held internal conversations about the possibility of signing Chelsea defender Levi Colwill this summer.

A product of the Chelsea academy, Colwill has developed into a fine prospect for the Blues and has a bright future ahead. Whether that future is with Chelsea or not, remains to be seen.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan with Brighton and Hove Albion and impressed many with his performances as the Seagulls secured a top-six finish in the Premier League.

Colwill made 22 appearances for Brighton across all competitions last year and registered two assists (Transfermarkt). Having proven himself in the top flight, decisions now need to be made regarding his place next season.

Tottenham were linked with a move for Colwill earlier this year (The Sun). However, a report from The Times suggested Colwill would be retained by Chelsea and would not be available for sale this summer.

Spurs looking at Colwill but a deal would be tricky

Whether Chelsea are willing to sell or not, it seems Tottenham Hotspur are pushing ahead with their interest and Ben Jacobs claims the club are talking about Colwill as a potential signing this summer.

On the options Spurs are keen on, Jacobs told Last Word on Spurs: “Look out for Premier League defenders, I would add another name even though I don’t think he’ll be gettable, Levi Colwill. Tottenham are one of the clubs in for Colwill.

“Just so I don’t get misquoted on this I mean they have discussed him internally and they have a high appreciation for the player, I don’t mean they have moved.

“The reason they haven’t moved is because, like Brighton, they’re getting the same indications out of Chelsea, which is that the player is not for sale.”

Chelsea have apparently made it clear they want to keep Colwill, and would be very unlikely to sell him to us anyway. We should move on from this and explore other options.
