Chelsea may have found a way to avoid selling Conor Gallagher to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, after it emerged the midfielder could be used as part of a deal to lure Moises Caicedo away from Brighton.
After developing through the Chelsea academy, Gallagher has proven over the last two seasons that he is a player capable of competing at the very top level.
The young midfielder impressed on loan at Crystal Palace last season, before returning to Stamford Bridge and establishing himself in the Chelsea first team in the 2022/23 campaign.
Despite this, there is every chance that Conor Gallagher will leave Chelsea this summer. A recent report from Football.London suggested Spurs could be looking to sign the midfielder from their London rivals.
The Athletic’s live transfer blog (16/06, 3 pm) named Tottenham as one of three clubs chasing Gallagher this summer, with Brighton and West Ham also keen on signing the 23-year-old.
Brighton could win the race for Conor Gallagher
Now, it seems Brighton and Hove Albion could get their man ahead of Tottenham, as Football Insider claims Chelsea will use the England international as a bargaining chip in their attempts to sign Moises Caicedo from the Seagulls.
Apparently, in an attempt to “alleviate their Financial Fair Play concerns,” Chelsea are hoping to “include a player” in the offer they make for Caicedo.
With Gallagher being a “long-term” target for Brighton, sources suggest he may be the man Chelsea opt to send the other way as they look to get the Caicedo deal concluded.
Spurs Web Opinion
It was always going to be unlikely that Chelsea would sell a player like Conor Gallagher to one of their closest rivals, and while he is a good player, there are plenty of other, arguably better playmakers out there for us to look at. I can definitely see Gallagher fitting in well at Brighton, though.
