Daniel Levy has revealed that Harry Kane did not demand to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer but the striker refused to sign a new contract.
In an interview with Sky Sports’ Football Daily, Levy has now opened up about the circumstances behind Kane’s sale, explaining that the striker made it clear that he would not be signing a contract extension this summer.
Harry Kane did not rule out future new contract
The Spurs chairman explained that while the 30-year-old did not rule out doing so in the future, the club could not risk the possibility of allowing him to leave on a free next summer.
Levy also added that Bayern conducted themselves well during the negotiation and that he has struck up a good relationship with the German club’s CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen.

Spurs Web Opinion
This does not come as a surprise as it was widely reported in the summer that Kane had refused to sign a new contract before the closure of the summer transfer window but was happy to stay.
I believe it would have certainly been the wrong decision to keep hold of him until his contract runs out and forgo the £100m transfer fee that could be reinvested into the squad.
