Spurs gaffer Mauricio Pochettino and defensive midfielder Eric Dier have revealed their eagerness to begin the new season in August following the release of the Premier League fixture list yesterday morning.
On the official club website, the Argentine manager spoke gleefully about the opening fixtures. He said:
“We’re starting to prepare the season and we cannot wait to start again.”
“This is a moment for our players to enjoy their holidays and try to recharge the batteries but for us, we’re thinking about starting the season in the best condition.”
“I’m always positive about the fixtures. It’s true, the Premier League is tough and we start in Newcastle, that will be exciting because it’s our first game and then our first game at Wembley is against Chelsea, I’m sure the fans will be excited for that as well.”
Eric Dier shared in his manager’s optimism, adding:
“These are two very exciting games for different reasons.”
“Newcastle have just come up and I’m sure the atmosphere will be fantastic for their first game back in the Premier League.”
Both Pochettino and Dier additionally revealed they’re eager to set the record straight in Newcastle after the calamitous 5-1 defeat to the Magpies at St James’ Park at the end of the 2015-16 season.
“Newcastle is another motivation for us,” Poch added. “The way that we finished the season before is not too much important now but we’ll have that in our mind to motivate us and we’ll try to win.”
“Next season will be exciting and to start at St James’ Park will be very motivating for us.”
Adding Chelsea to the list of vengeance, Dier commented:
“We want to start well – and make up for what happened there on the last day of the season two years ago.”
“Then it’s Chelsea…we’ve had some great games against them in recent seasons and we will be looking to set down an early marker.”
What are your early predictions for those two games? Will we start well? Or will we start slow?
