Harry Winks has today revealed his delight and excitement to be learning his trade at Tottenham Hotspur.
At 21 years of age, central midfielder Harry Winks is the latest Spurs youth product to emerge from the sidelines and breakthrough to first team football.
Winks had totaled 33 appearances in all competitions last season before picking up a season-ending injury at Turf Moor in April, from which he is still recovering.
In an interview uploaded to Tottenham’s official website, Winks reflected on his football as a child and the journey he’s enjoyed at White Hart Lane ever since. He said:
“We went on a cruise when I was about four and I was playing football with all the chefs and lifeguards on the ship and I remember the ball went into the sea – I was devastated!”
“I had all my different kits as well, I used to collect them, all Tottenham kits, all different colours.”
“When I was six, seven it was fun, just playing football, day to day, don’t think about the future – it was pure football and fun.”
“When you get to scholarship age, 16, 17, then it becomes real. You think ‘I might have a chance here’.”
Winks’ passion for football and Tottenham Hotspur was clear for all to see during Spurs’ dramatic derby victory over West Ham United in November last year, when Winks scored his first ever senior goal for the club, a crucial equaliser just after the break.
“The most important thing is no matter what level you play at, enjoy it,” he added. “That’s what football is about.”
“That’s the one thing I’d say through all my years at Tottenham, I’ve enjoyed every age group and every challenge, and I’m still learning and still enjoying.”
