Welsh international Ben Davies feels as though the performances he put in at the tail-end of last season were his best ever at the club.
When talented left-back Danny Rose succumbed to injury in January, up-stepped his British counter-part, Ben Davies, to take his place.
With some hard-work and determination, the 24 year old made sure he really earned his place in Pochettino’s team regardless of the injury to Rose, which lead to a spell of impressive performances from the Welshman.
In an interview uploaded to Tottenham Hotspur’s official club website, full-back Ben Davies has revealed his delight at the quality football he’d been playing during Tottenham’s title challenge last season.
When asked if a run in the first-team had any effect on his impressive performances, Davies said:
“Yes, probably.”
“I think it’s been nice to have a run of games. Especially as a full-back, every game has to be about consistency and the more games you can play in a row the better really.”
“When you get that run of games, you get that little bit sharper, a little bit fresher and sometimes that just comes with playing.”
Davies managed to find the net for the first time in a Spurs shirt too, during Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa in an FA Cup fixture in January, as well as additionally hitting his first Premier League goal during Tottenham’s fantastic 7-1 destruction of Hull on the final day of the season.
“It’s been nice to have got a couple of goals at the other end as well,” He added. “I’ve really enjoyed playing in the last few months and I feel I’ve been doing alright.”
Davies also revealed that the entire team is only getting better and better and that they should be proud of all the work they’ve put in. He said:
“We’ve had a real go this year and I think some of the performances we’ve put in have been excellent.”
“We’ve really worked hard for the whole season and tried to put in the best performances we can. With the amount of work we’ve put in, some performances are really showing that we’re improving as a side and getting better most weeks.”
“It’s a credit to the hard work that we’ve been doing and I feel like we’re improving as a team, so hopefully we can take some momentum going into next season
