By the end of August, Hugo Lloris will have completed a decade of service with Tottenham Hotspur (Transfermarkt). As the club captain continues his pre-season preparation, he has spoken of his excitement for the upcoming season.

Naturally, Lloris and his teammates are firmly focused on the task at hand – the pre-season friendly against Sevilla tomorrow. However, the goalkeeper commented on the positive spirit around the club for what lies further ahead.

As the longest-serving member of the current senior squad, Lloris is well-placed to assess the strength of what Antonio Conte is building at Spurs.

He’s has seen it all; the highs and the lows, but is cautiously optimistic about what can be achieved in the forthcoming campaign.

The return of Champions League to N17 is clearly a big focus for Lloris and the rest of the squad, and the Frenchman stressed the importance of being competitive ‘in all the competitions we’re engaged in.’

With grand ambitions swirling around the Tottenham Hotspur camp at the moment, Lloris acknowledged that the club is in a great position right now, but he remained grounded and insisted that, at the heart of it all, is ‘a lot of humility and respect.’

He said (Football.London): “Like you said, it’s going to be 10 years at the end of August.

“It’s still very exciting and I’m looking forward to the new season. You can see I think the club have tried to put the players, Antonio and the staff in the best position they would like to, to strengthen the squad.

“Obviously to be back in the Champions League, we are all looking forward to this. Also we want to be even more competitive than last year, in all the competitions we’re engaged in.

“We are going to start the season with a lot of ambition, but also a lot of humility and respect. The priority at the moment is to be focused on the preparation.

“We know how important it is to be condition for a high level of football. We try to be as fit as possible and there is a lot of excitement for the coming season.”

He added: “When the team works as well as it did the talented players are going to appear and make a difference.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Challenging on all fronts this season won’t be easy. Spurs are putting the building blocks in place by adding quality depth to the squad, but as Lloris says, fitness will play a huge part in how successful the club can be. By the looks of Conte’s rigorous pre-season training though, that shouldn’t be an issue for these players.
