Danny Rose has been speaking candidly about his time at Tottenham Hotspur, and revealed he nearly joined a London rival in a move which would have seen him blacklisted by the Lilywhites.

The left-back was fortunate enough to be a part of one of the more successful periods in the club’s recent history, forming a brilliant defensive partnership with the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, and Kyle Walker.

Rose amassed 214 appearances for Spurs and bagged ten goals in total for the club before finally ending his time in North London in 2021 (Transfermarkt).

At his peak, Rose was a mainstay in the Tottenham first team and is heralded as one of the better left-sided defenders to grace the turf at White Hart Lane over the years.

He did spend some time out on loan at other clubs during his career but a permanent move away from Spurs never materialised until Rose had passed his peak.

Danny Rose could have signed for a rival club

Despite remaining loyal to Tottenham throughout the years, it seems Rose did once have the chance to leave the club for a fierce rival, though he won’t reveal who that was.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Rose said: “I spoke to a team across the river and I don’t think I’d have been allowed back at Tottenham had that have materialised.

“I can’t say [who it was] because I don’t want to get them into trouble or anything but, yeah, had that have come up, I don’t think the Tottenham fans would be singing my name like that anymore.”

One can only imagine Rose is talking about either Arsenal or Chelsea in this instance. A move to any other London rivals wouldn’t be quite as controversial as those two, and it’s only Arsenal or Chelsea really where Spurs fans would have turned on Rose.
