Italy manager, Luciano Spalletti, has claimed that Destiny Udogie can also be used as a midfielder and has featured there in training for the senior side this week.
Udogie received his maiden Italy call-up this week following his exploits at Tottenham this season, where he has been an instant revelation under Ange Postecoglou.
The former Udinese man has lined up at left-back in every game so far this season, but operates as an inverted full-back at times during the Spurs attack.
Destiny Udogie is impressing for Italy and Tottenham
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Spalletti has been able to make use of Udogie’s talents in-field during Italy training, with the Spurs star improving on the ball with each passing game this season.
The 20-year-old has been one of the surprise rising stars of the Premier League campaign, and will look to continue his good form for club and country this month.
Spalletti said about Udogie (Tuttomercatoweb): “There are those (in our squad) who can cover multiple roles. Udogie played as a midfielder (in training) and can also be used in that role.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
I am so surprised at how effective Udogie has been as an inverted full-back, seeing as his past experience was almost exclusively as a wing-back. This kid has a seriously scary ceiling if he carries on progressing at this rate.
