The Sun have claimed that Ange Postecoglou could be confirmed as Tottenham’s head coach by next week.

The publication states that even though Tottenham have kept a ‘respectful silence’ regarding Postecoglou as the Celtic prepared for their Scottish Cup final against Inverness, they are hopeful of landing the Australian.

The report claims that the North London club want to agree on the details of the deal with the Bhoys boss as soon as Saturday’s final is out of the way where they are looking to secure a domestic treble.

It is alleged that Postecoglou is keen to test himself in the Premier League and the Hoops are resigned to losing him to the Lilywhites.

The Sun add that although the Celtic are disappointed to be losing the 54-year-old, they will not stand in his way, now that he looks set to move south of the border.

This report comes a day after The Independent claimed that Tottenham are keen to confirm a managerial appointment within the next 10 to 14 days, naming Postecoglou as a leading candidate for the role.

The Evening Standard reported yesterday that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was said to be impressed with Postecoglou and is happy to move forward with managerial discussions.

Tottenham have been looking for a new permanent head coach since parting company with Antonio Conte in late March with Cristian Stellini initially given the responsibility to lead the club for the remainder of the season on a temporary basis, only to also be dismissed and replaced by Ryan Mason.

Mason had previously spoken about his desire to secure the role on a permanent basis despite having had some disappointing results along the way.

He told the Daily Mail following the loss to Aston Villa which proved to be decisive in ending their hopes of European football: “Absolutely not,” he said when asked if the defeat might change his mind.

“I’ve remained consistent. I believe we’re doing a good job in terms of what we’re trying to create.”

This might once again be a case of media outlets suggesting that the deal is much further along than it actually is, just as they did with Tottenham’s pursuit of Arne Slot.

Spurs fans should wait until there is some concrete evidence that Ange Postecoglou is indeed the club’s top target.
