Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly on the verge of their second signing of the summer with Guglielmo Vicario set to seal his move from Empoli.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Twitter earlier this morning that the 26-year-old is set to board a flight from Spain to London today to undergo his medical at the club’s Hotspur Way training facility ahead of completing his transfer from the Serie A outfit.

Vicario has just finished his second season as the number one with Empoli in Serie A, having played in Italy’s lower divisions and been the second choice at top-flight Cagliari in 2020-21.

He has been a regular in the Italian national squad since his first call-up last September but has not yet earned his first cap, instead, acting as an understudy to PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Vicario sends hint ahead of Spurs move

The goalkeeper took to Instagram in the early hours of Sunday to post a photo of himself alongside his agent Gabriele Giuffrida along with the caption “Living the Dream”.

Tottenham had also agreed terms with David Raya but are not willing to meet Brentford’s £40m asking price as part of their search for Hugo Lloris‘ replacement with the Frenchman set to leave the club this summer (Guardian).

Former Italy goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca admitted earlier this week that Tottenham will be making a shrewd signing with the arrival of Vicario.

Pagliuca told the Italian Football Podcast: “Vicario is a very good goalkeeper, he will be the most sought after goalkeeper of the transfer window.

“He’s the goalkeeper I like the most in Serie A and has the right maturity now for the step up.”
