Guglielmo Vicario has revealed that Hugo Lloris gave him a warm welcome when he arrived at Tottenham and added that he is enjoying getting to know his new teammates during the club’s pre-season tour.
Vicario has big shoes to fill at Tottenham, with Lloris being largely outstanding between the sticks during his 11-year spell at the club.
The Italian labelled the Frenchman as one of the ‘greatest’ in the world and said that he enjoyed meeting and working with the Spurs captain at Hotspur Way.
When asked about taking over from the 36-year-old, the new Tottenham goalkeeper stated: “Hugo is still a Tottenham player. He was so kind with me when I signed. I think he’s a great guy.
“He’s one of the greatest keepers in the world. He won the World Cup and he’s played many, many games in the Premier League and in Europe.
“So all the best for him and he’s one of the best in the world. He gave me a warm welcome in the first training session. We worked together in the last few days. He’s a good guy.”
Vicario will now have a much bigger spotlight on him after making the step up to Tottenham but the former Empoli man insisted that he loves the additional pressure and responsibility that comes with being the Spurs number one.
When asked about the expectations at N17, he responded: “I love it. I love it. All kinds of pressure. You have to know that the pressure is on you alone – from the fans, from all the things, but I think it’s good – it can improve your games, everything about you.”
Vicario can’t wait to get started at Tottenham
The 26-year-old has only been at Spurs for a few weeks but admitted that the size of the institution has already dawned on him, and remarked that he cannot wait to get started on the new adventure.
Vicario added: “The club has big, big potential. We have all the facilities to make the footballers, the professionals, 100 per cent. We have to trust what the club and what the manager says to us, but I think we are a great group of guys, a great group of lads, so we can work together and we can reach the top,” he said.
“All the guys have welcomed me. All the guys were so kind with me, everyone. Good impact, good behaviour by everyone on the pitch, outside the pitch, and I am so excited to start playing this season for Spurs.”

Vicario seems to be quite an effervescent character and should have no issues settling into the dressing room at Tottenham.
Given the way Postecoglou wants him to play, there is no doubt that he will make a few howlers next season, and it is important that fans do not get on the Italian’s back when those mistakes inevitably occur.
