Roma Giallorossa have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have now resurrected their pursuit of AS Roma centre-back Roger Ibanez.
Earlier in the summer, plenty of Italian outlets reported that Spurs had their eye on Ibanez, with Gazzetta dello Sport (15/06/23 via Sport Witness) even claiming that Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto had travelled to London to meet with Tottenham officials regarding the centre-back.
However, the speculation linking the Brazilian with a move to Spurs had subsequently gone quiet.
Tottenham resume Roger Ibanez pursuit
Roma Giallorossa have stated that Spurs are now ‘back in the running’ to sign the Serie A defender.
The publication explains that one of the reasons is that Davinson Sanchez is now on the verge of sealing a move away from N17, with the Lilywhites now looking for reinforcements in central defence.
It is alleged that Roma need to raise some funds through player sales in order to comply with FFP rules, which is why the Italian side are now ready to offload Ibanez.
The outlet adds that the Giallorossi initially wanted €30m (£25.7m) for the centre-back, which Tottenham were not willing to pay, but they would now be willing to accept just €25m (£21.4m) for the player.
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no indication from any reliable sources that Ibanez is one of the centre-backs near the top of Tottenham’s wishlist.
It appears as if the North London club are focused on the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo, Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven for the moment.
