Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Ange Postecoglou has added Guglielmo Vicario to Tottenham’s new leadership group.
The old leadership group at Spurs has been completely disbanded, with Harry Kane leaving the club, and Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier seemingly not in Postecoglou’s plans while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been reduced to a bit part role.
While Postecoglou’s decision to hand the captaincy to Son Heung-min was not surprising, he seemingly made a statement by appointing Cristian Romero and new signing, James Maddison, as the South Korean’s deputies.
All three players led from the front at Turf Moor on Saturday, with the trio getting on the scoresheet in the 5-2 win.
Bissouma and Vicario given Spurs leadership roles
Gold has now revealed that Postecoglou has called upon Vicario and Yves Bissouma to also ‘lead the rest of the younger bunch by examples and words’.
The journalist added that the aforementioned senior players have all bought into the 58-year-old’s ways and that the Spurs boss has developed a closeness with them that did not always exist with his players at his previous clubs.
Spurs Web Opinion
Vicario comes across as a natural leader, who is not afraid to give his opinion to his teammates. So, I am not surprised that Ange has bestowed some leadership responsibilities on the Italian.
