Former Arsenal and England goalkeeper David Seaman has revealed he was unhappy with something Guglielmo Vicario did in the recent win over Burnley. Turns out, the Tottenham Hotspur stopper celebrated too much after making a save during the game.
A key area Tottenham needed to fix this summer was between the sticks. After Hugo Lloris‘ worrying decline last season, signing a new number-one goalkeeper to replace him was one of the first things Ange Postecoglou did upon taking over as manager.
Guglielmo Vicario was chosen as the man to fill Lloris’ gloves, signing from Empoli in a deal worth a reported £17m (EuroSport).
The Italian’s ability to play with the ball at his feet was seen as a big advantage as Postecoglou looked to revamp Spurs’ approach to the game.
It’s been a successful start to life in North London for Vicario, too. With two clean sheets in two games, and a number of important saves, the 27-year-old has been a vital component of Tottenham’s unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign.
David Seaman isn’t happy with Guglielmo Vicario
However, David Seaman is not impressed. At least, not with one thing he saw Vicario do in the recent victory over Burnley.
On his podcast, Seaman said: “I saw [Guglielmo] Vicario he made a save for Tottenham which was a decent save until I saw his celebration. I was like, I’m not having you, you’re not getting anywhere near my save of the week with a celebration like that.
“It was way too much. He properly went for it, it’s not like a mega save, he gave it a load and I don’t like to see that.”

If the only thing Guglielmo Vicario is doing ‘wrong’ is celebrating too much, then he must be doing pretty well. I was worried it might take the Italian a while to adjust to the Premier League, but he has made a fantastic start to his time here and hopefully, he can keep improving, too.
