Football Insider have claimed that Manchester United are leading the race to sign Blackburn Rovers starlet Ashley Phillips, who is also on Tottenham’s radar.

Phillips is yet to make his senior debut at Ewood Park but he has impressed for the Rovers’ Under-23s, having featured twice against Tottenham this season (Transfermarkt).

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray lavished praise on the teenager back in November, labelling him a ‘phenomenal’ talent and insisting he has ‘got every attribute’ that one looks for in a central defender (Lancs Live).

The Telegraph revealed last week that the 16-year-old is on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

Football Insider have now backed up that claim, stating that Phillips is of interest to Spurs, Chelsea, Everton and Man Utd.

The report suggests that the Red Devils are in pole position to sign the centre-back in the summer, with the club ‘desperate’ to bring him to Old Trafford.

It is explained that Blackburn are keen to keep the youngster at the club despite Phillips having just 18 months left to run on his contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Tottenham’s focus in the summer is likely to be on bringing in three or four readymade reinforcements to improve the first team, I believe that the club will also be on the lookout for top young talents like Pape Matar Sarr. That is probably one of the reasons why Paratici was brought in by Daniel Levy.
