Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster believes Pape Matar Sarr is ‘an exciting prospect’ for Tottenham in the future.
Spurs signed the 18-year-old midfielder from Metz this summer for a reported fee of around £15 million, but was loaned back to the Ligue 1 side straight away for the rest of the season.
Sarr was highly sought after throughout the transfer window after his breakthrough campaign in France last season. The teenager started 18 games in Ligue 1 last season, scoring on three occasions to help Metz stay in the top flight.
The Senegal international had reportedly appeared on the radar of Spurs’ fellow Premier League competitors Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City over the summer.
But Spurs were able to fend off all the competition and were first to Sarr’s signature, with former England international Foster arguing he could be a key player for the north London side in years to come.
Foster said on his YouTube channel: “That young lad they have signed, Pape Sarr from Metz. Apparently a fair, decent amount of money, £25 million or something I heard.
“I think he could be an exciting prospect for a few years time.”

‘Prospect’ is exactly how you would describe the signing of Sarr. There is a reason why so many top clubs in Europe were looking to sign the midfielder this summer and Spurs can count themselves fortunate to have acquired a talent at such a short price. If his development continues, we may see him in the Spurs midfield sooner rather than later.
