Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester City are convinced they will win the race to sign AFC Wimbledon goalkeeper, Thorsten ‘Spike’ Brits, who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.
Brits is working his way through the youth ranks at Wimbledon and is making waves for the League Two side’s Under 18s team.
His performances have not only seen the youngster being capped by England’s Under-16s but have also seen him attract interest from several top-flight clubs.
The South London Press reported back in February that Tottenham and Manchester United had both been alerted to Brits’ talent and were plotting moves for him.
The report suggested that he could be the next player from the Dons’ academy to make a big move in the summer.
However, there now appears to have been a twist in the race for Brits’ signature, with Manchester City having entered the picture.
In fact, Romano took to social media to assert that Pep Guardiola’s men are now in pole position to snap up the goalkeeper and are convinced that they would be able to strike a deal in a matter of days.

One of the primary reasons behind Scott Munn’s appointment by Tottenham was to seemingly improve the academy set-up.
So, we might see Tottenham going after a number of young, up-and-coming talent from the EFL during the summer transfer window.
